well I ordered through owc because its an amazon store giving me an extra 5% off with my credit card.

at 279 drive plus optibay, it was pretty close to getting an intel drive (230) + optibay for $40

Will I see any difference on a 6gbs drive? its another 60 bucks, not sure if its really worth it to boot up 1second faster. i don't do video editing of really intensive things. I just want fast program launch and fast booting and fast access to my day to day data.

What am I doing wrong? Im thinking my DNS is set up right but I guess I dont know how to set up the web services properly. Ideally, Id like to keep any tinkering within Server Admin, as I can teach a dedicated volunteer to do that easier than using a terminal command or editing some obscure file.

Quick question, are you working on the server from inside or outside the network where it resides?

It sounds like he was recruited into the gaming Mafia or something!Well, the gaming community definitely gets intense in their er... 'hobby' or lifestyle. They take things berseriously. Like the person who stabbed someone w/ a screwdriver at one exhibition event. And come on, who wouldn't take a 'game' seriously if the prize was sponsored gaming set ups from big companies and free games/software/hardware and even beaucoup cash?! :p

So I have owned my 2011MBP (15", 2.2GHz) for about a month now, and while it isn't slow, it doesn't feel as fast as my 3 year old C2D (E6750) based system. On my Windows machine, I can run several virtual machines, for months, without even noticing any impact on other applications such as Adobe CS3, etc. This system only has 4GB of memory, and an older 750GB HD.

If I try running just 1 virtual machine (be it XP or Windows 7), it makes the laptop almost useless, while the VM itself isn't running that fast either. I have tweaked some of the performance settings in Parallels, but nothing seems to make a difference. I upgraded to 8GB of memory, still no difference.

    Is this a typical experience?

    Okay !!

But do you think after 5 years of use it be more 15 GB the logs?

Well, to put that into perspective, the last time I purged my log files, they all together added up to about 3GB...and that was after about 6 months...

24" iMac and 13" MBA. I only need documents to be synced so that works easily with DropBox (I would do that even if I had only one computer). Of course, if you work with video or other big files, then DropBox is a no-go and file syncing in general may be a pain in your ass.

I really like having two computers. Sure it has its pros and cons but for me, the pros outweigh the cons. If I had only one computer, it would most likely be 15" MBP. By the time I bought my iMac, it wasn't as powerful as the iMac and it is nowhere near as portable as MBA.

I have never used a Samsung drive, nor do I know anybody who has. Do they actually make their own? Or do they get drives relabeled from another company?

I have a P80. They make their own drives and have very nice tech. But they only make smaller drives with up to 2 platters (P120 has 125GB per platter).

Do any of you guys know any programs for the mac that could tell me my CPU speed? Or if not, what is the typical temperature that the CPU throttles itself? Thanks!
Mac CPUs will throttle due to thermal issues just below the level where they will automatically shut down to prevent damage, which is around 100C/212F or 105C/221F, depending on which processor you have.

Hey, I'm in the same boat here

Recently bought an iBook, and although I love it, I hate the keyboard layout (supposed to be UK layout). It's not so much a problem per se, as I quickly adapt to new things. The biggest problem is that at work I have to use a windows PC, and I keep getting the keys wrong all the time!!!

The \ in my ibook is next to the return key, and next to the left shift on the pc at work. I can't tell you guys how many times I've typed # at work, expecting a \ (next to return is the # on a pc), or how many times I've typed ` expecting a \ on my ibook.

It's really getting on my nerves!!!

Now, here is a question for you all. When I'm at home, I don't mind using an external PC keyboard (i have a cordless logitech keyb/mouse thang). Is there any way I can remap the keys so that when I have the external keyboard, everything is where a PC would find it? ie, \ next to the left shift, # next to the return key, etc...

    Thanks

Yes, I can confirm that it does what you describe in Safari and DPA2 on my computer. But... did you try putting in the type="audio/x-mp3" in the tag? I didn't see that in the source code as it is now.

By no problem, do you mean that you feel no difference between 10.6 an 10.7?
Well the cursor is not as fast as in Windows, but it's managable.

I don't notice a difference between 10.6 and 10.7 as far as tracking speed, but I don't do much gaming and mouse speed is not an issue for me.
I don't use Windows on this Mac, so I am not sure about the speed in between Mac/Windows.

why has nobody ever replied to this???

Unfortunately, on busy days sometimes posts get lost, like this one probably did.

However - congratulations to 18thTomorrow on one of the lowest cost switching stories I've heard. A G3 with monitor for $150? Sweet.

Woa! Where the hell did that come from?! You uh... you need to work on that. Bad dog!

He came from the Republican Don't know dick University.

Where they are taught to make believe everything and know basically nothing.

Do people still think China is some backward country? They may not be us here in the USA but they are catching up and will probably surpass us in the coming decade or two, considering a large part of american society is getting dumber than a rock.

Now lets pray. "Oh great white bearded man in sky, may through your glory smite the china located somewhere because I can't read a map. Amen!
