Hello:
I am planning on selling my 17'' MBP to one of my good friends as I'd like to switch to a MacBook Air since it will better suit my needs. I was wondering if anybody has an idea of what a fair price would be.
Here are the general specs:
Purchased: Spring 2007
Monitor: 17''
Processor: 2.33 GHz Inter Core 2 Duo
Memory: 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Snow Leopard OS
Any feedback is appreciated, thanks

I've had this happen to me.
Seems to happen only when I've rebooted a system (maybe from sleep state -- see the next paragraph for a possible explanation). I guess it sees some ghost of the old system around (BonJour I expect) and renames itself to avoid conflict.
I've got a Mac mini server handling DHCP/DNS. I know this only happens on a specific system that doesn't have a fixed IP address assigned using the "Static Maps" page in Server Admin. But it might not be the server at fault. I also have an AirPort Extreme that does the Wake-on-LAN for the system. Since it responds to BonJour requests for sleeping systems, if it thinks the system being rebooted is asleep when a new one appears with a different IP address (via DHCP assignment).
If I'm right, you can solve the problem by having the DHCP service assign a fixed IP using the Static Maps.
Now if it is the server itself that is changing names, and it has a static IP, I'm baffled.

Nice picts Ward, can you get 8-10 hrs on the batteries?
I used to love playing crystal quest on my MacPortable.
I'm sure you are running some AfterDark screen savers as well.
Does anyone remember the "Barney Blaster" screen module?
I was NOT allowed to play that in front of my young nieces/nephews back then.

I've been into these keynotes and rumors since the September 2006 iPod announcements. This MacWorld has me more hyped that Christmas this year.

I agree with what some people have said however with the delay of 4.0 for the ipad I would not be surprised if they end up having this feature within its native photos apps.
For someone like Steve who is so over everything it would just surprise me why they would have delays with no reason, there must be an end game reason as to why or else people have to start loosing their jobs.

Is it possible to change the processor on the current Quad Core Mac Pro to the processor a 12-Core Mac Pro has. I mean, I will buy the processor from a website and install it on the Quad Core Mac Pro. Is that possible? Thank you for the responses in advance.

I would try a Mr. Clean Magic eraser on a small spot on the bottom to see how it cleans. It should work well. I used it on my old black MacBook and it made it look like new again. Don't use it on the LCD however. Get Monster LCD cleaning solution (it comes in a blue bottle for like $20). It's well worth it, the consistency of the liquid is a gel type spray so it won't ever run even if you spray directly onto the screen panel itself.
Back to the magic eraser, it removes pesky oily spots that appear to look like wear on the keys/hand rests/track pad. I haven't found any way to officially clean my macbook until I used them.

I dont think Apple will slap it into Powerbook, it just seems 2 big for it (phisical size). Remember, PBs are 1 inch think and are getting 20-40 % smaller with Intel!
Is it really that big? It measures about 1.8" by 1.8", and the package includes both GPU and 128 MB RAM. I forget how big 9700 was, but X1600 should be smaller.

Keep it and upgrade the RAM yourself. It's much cheaper.
Do this. Check out OWC or Newegg.

Why not just leave them, since they're not hurting anything by being there. I'm sure if you did enough research, you could find the purpose for each file, but why waste the time?
Wow, you are such a great help. Thank you so much...
Seriously though, why even bother helping if you have nothing to contribute?

I've heard from AppleInsider that TRIM is long due to the macs and that Apple will enable TRIM support in Lion update...
After I've installed an Intel x25-m G2 SSD onto my 2010 MBP 13", the benchmarks were low compared to that on Windows platform. I also noticed the Apple's own stock SSD (mostly Toshiba or Samsung) have aggressive GC, but their read/write speeds are off compared to many decent SSD's on the market, like sandforce powered OCZ Vertex 3, or intel G3.
Funny thing is that Apple's own solid state drives has their own GC, and enables TRIM on-the-fly, as reported by Anandtech, but I wasn't very sure.
Has anyone have any ideas if and when TRIM will be implemented on macs, since it is really needed for people with SSD's in their macs?
TRIM is already implemented on Lion. You can even enable it on 10.6.7 if you use the IOAHCIFamily.kext from a 2011 MBP.
The trick is that both Lion and 10.6.7 (using the MBP 2011 kext above) look for an SSD with the model name "APPLE SSD". What you need to do is hex edit IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS/IOAHCIBlockStorage and replace the two instances of "APPLE SSD" with the first 9 character of your SSD drive as it appears in system profiler. (In my case "OCZ-VERTE").
Theres a lot more information here -> http://forum.hardmac.com/index.php?showtopic=10020
And heres confirmation that it does indeed work (this is a snow leopard pic, Ive also done this in Lion).

The real question is, wether this is a stop-gap measure, or if Apple intend to continue this trend into the future and only support trim on native apple ssd's. Would be nice to not have to load a hex editor after every delta/combo update.

Nice collection, freaking jealous. Good to see you have 4 seasons of the office. :)
As of right now, I only have all the seasons of That 70's Show, taking a pic of a small collection isn't really pretty :(
Nice collection everyone :D
Thanks, I got Seasons 5 and 6 of the Office on blu in one of those cubs somewhere. The packaging of season 6 sucks, so I removed the discs and put them in separate cd holders. I had to do the same thing for Back to the Future.
You should post a pic anyway. No matter how many you got...Obey the thread! :D

...looking at the log file
posting a copy of that might help (or the part you are worried about i guess to keep it short). easier to read and research than guess and give you a wrong answer.
the two copies of X are fine. i have several copies/versions in my MP with no issue. and one more on an external firewire drive actually come to think of it...

As a previous poster mentioned, easiest to use CCC to move your current installation of OS X over to the SSD... See here for instructions:
